17 Memphis serves as the country-pop outlet for producer Felix Snow and vocalist Chelsea Todd, a pair who had earlier operated together under the pop moniker TYSM. After driving through the South, Snow—who had scored a hit with Kiiara’s “Gold” and contributed to recordings by Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, and Young Thug—and Todd chose to pivot toward electronic-tinged country material. Their first album, 17 Memphis Forever, arrived in 2019.

Both Snow and Todd spent their formative years in Sequin, Texas; there Snow took up drums, guitar, mandolin, and upright bass while Todd performed vocals and appeared in musical theater productions. A cross-country journey the two made together yielded several songs captured on a laptop inside hotel rooms. After relocating to Nashville they issued their initial single, “Leather and Levi’s,” co-written with Neil Mason of Cadillac Three. The track gained traction on streaming services in 2017, a success mirrored by “Rearview” and “Under the Night.” Their debut EP, Three Coors & the Truth, surfaced in early 2018.

The full-length 17 Memphis Forever followed in mid-2019, with the second album, The Ballad of 17 Memphis, emerging in June 2020.
