Throaty vocalist Karen Lawrence established the band 1994 in 1978 after departing the L.A. Jets. That same year she wrote the song "Prisoner (Love Theme From the 'Eyes of Laura Mars')," later made famous by Barbra Streisand. She also supplied backing vocals for Aerosmith on Draw the Line. Guitarist Brad Whitford contributed to 1994's self-titled debut album, appearing on the track "Heleana." Famed Aerosmith producer Jack Douglas oversaw the whole record as well as its 1979 successor, Please Stand By. Lawrence subsequently explored new wave under the name Karen Lawrence and the Pinz before providing support for Graham Parker. Douglas likewise produced her '90s outfit Blue By Nature, whose lineup featured Rick DuFray, a brief Aerosmith guitarist. At the start of the new millennium Lawrence added her vocals to Slash's Snakepit on Ain't Life Grand, another Douglas production.
