Biography
From Harlem, the provocative rap act 2 Black 2 Strong received support from the MMG crew, whose roster featured Mean Gene, Johnny Marrs, Warchild, C Dogg, along with Dark Chocolate. Their 1991 full-length Doin' Hard Time on Planet Earth followed an introductory Burn Baby Burn EP released in 1990. Artwork on that EP showed a U.S. flag in flames, hinting at the content of its namesake song. Relativity's In-Effect subsidiary faced refusal from the duplicator when seeking to manufacture promo versions. An alternate facility ultimately handled the production. The group's ongoing challenges to free expression provoked pushback, particularly given the inclusion of "F*ck the red, white and blue" in "Burn Baby Burn." Issues such as the war on drugs, police brutality, and additional urban hardships received attention on the strong LP.
