Biography
Originating from Sheffield, England, the post-punk outfit 2.3 first assembled in 1977 under the expanded name 2.3 Children, a reference to the average number of offspring per household. Haydn Boyes-Weston handled drums, Paul Shaft played bass, and Paul Bower supplied guitar. Within several months the trio abbreviated its name to 2.3 and, after catching Bob Last’s ear during a Doncaster gig, landed on the Edinburgh, Scotland-based Fast label—the same imprint that would issue the earliest recordings by both the Human League and Gang of Four. Their lone single, All Time Low, surfaced in March 1978, after which the group appeared to drop from view. Boyes-Weston’s drumming also surfaces on a pair of early Cabaret Voltaire releases.
