Spanish hard rock outfit '77, whose name honors a year the members regard as a peak moment for the genre, came together in 2005 under the leadership of brothers Armand Valeta on lead vocals and rhythm guitar and LG Valeta on lead guitar. The siblings struggled to locate players who shared their vision until 2007, when bassist Raw and drummer Dolphin Riot joined and the group began performing regularly. Following an EP issued toward the end of that year, '77 built a reputation through energetic European shows, then delivered its self-produced, self-financed debut full-length, 21st Century Rock, in 2009. The record earned favorable notices from the continent’s rock press, prompting French heavy metal imprint Listenable Records to sign the band in 2010 and issue the album worldwide. Extensive touring across Europe and Japan backed the re-release. Their second LP, High Decibels, arrived in 2011 under the guidance of Nicke Andersson of the Hellacopters, whom the group had befriended during Swedish dates; Andersson teamed with Fred Estby to produce the third album, 2013’s Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll. Raw and Dolphin Riot departed in 2014, leading the Valeta brothers to enlist bassist Guillem Martinez and drummer Andy Cobo. A new contract with Century Media Records was inked in March 2015, and the band’s first release for the label, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us, surfaced later that year. Martinez exited in 2017 and was succeeded by longtime associate Dani Martin on bass; Martin’s first appearance on record came with the 2018 album Bright Gloom.
