Biography
Although originating in Durham, North Carolina, the rap trio 83 Babies cultivated a pronounced Atlanta trap aesthetic. Emerging during the latter half of the 2010s, the group drew the attention of Rich the Kid, who placed them on his imprint and oversaw release of their self-titled debut project, anchored by the underground favorite “No Cap.”
The lineup consists of Lil Tony, Set It Off (formerly Setitoff83), and Young Boss Tevo. The three embraced the signature trap conventions established by earlier acts such as Migos, from whom they also secured an endorsement. Initial offerings “Lurkin” and “No Hook” preceded the wider reach achieved by “No Cap,” which appeared on the full-length 83 Babies issued via Rich the Kid’s Rich Forever label. Rich supplied a guest verse that kept the single active through 2019. That year the trio also featured prominently on the label’s compilation Rich Forever 4, supplying half its tracks: “Drip Layer,” “So Nasty,” “Tell Me” with Airi, “Numbers” with Tg3 Thr33, plus “Get the Bag” and “Chanel Frames” with Bino.
