Since the mid-2000s, Aa—pronounced "big a, little a"—has remained a constant presence within Brooklyn's experimental rock community, merging restless polyrhythms with touches of electronic, psychedelic, hardcore, and pop. The founding percussionists and keyboardists Aron Wahl, Josh Bonati, and John Atkinson work alongside an ever-changing lineup of additional musicians on projects such as the 2004 Narnack debut All War All the Time and the 2007 release gAame. Following several years of touring and side pursuits, the band resurfaced in 2014 with VoyAager, tracked in Southern France, L.A., New Jersey, and Brooklyn alongside co-producer Billy Pavone. Their fourth album, 2016's ZebrAa, merged the force of three drummers with programmed beats.
