Aaron Camper works as a contemporary R&B singer and songwriter whose roots lie in gospel music. As the son of a preacher, he sang and recorded alongside Tye Tribbett right after high school and earned a co-writing credit on “Power,” a track from Marvin Sapp’s Grammy-nominated album Thirsty. A few years later he expanded his reach, contributing to projects by an array of R&B, pop, and dance acts such as Jill Scott, Eric Roberson, Diddy, Justin Timberlake, and David Guetta. In 2011, while still balancing those collaborations and live commitments, he launched his own solo path through BASSic Black, the label run by his creative partner Adam Blackstone. Its inaugural project was the mixtape Welcome to My World, which included “Take Off,” later adopted as the theme for The Queen Latifah Show. Between 2012 and 2014 he released a series of singles in contrasting styles—“Madness,” “Breaking My Heart,” and “My Heart.” In 2015 Camper delivered the moody slow jam “Hypnotizing” and the breezy midtempo cut “Choose You,” a pair that stood among his strongest recordings up to that time.
