Chicago-based blues pianist, singer and songwriter Aaron Moore enjoys strong local recognition yet remains largely unknown beyond the city on the wider blues circuit. Over the past four decades he has lived primarily in Chicago, providing support for an extensive roster of performers that includes Little Walter, Lonnie Brooks, Hound Dog Taylor, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and B.B. King. Born and raised in Greenwood, Mississippi, Moore received early encouragement from his mother, a music teacher and church pianist, and drew initial inspiration from Curtis Jones before absorbing the style of Memphis Slim. After settling in Chicago he studied under Roosevelt Sykes, the boogie-woogie paragon, and the pair frequently performed together in local clubs. For 36 years Moore held a day job with the city while restricting his blues work to weekend freelance engagements, accompanying neighborhood musicians in club settings. Following retirement from the Chicago Sanitation Department he moved to Milwaukee in 1990, positioning himself to devote his later years entirely to music. His 1996 Delmark album Hello World features guitar by James Wheeler, bass by Willie Black and drums by Huckleberry Hound.
