Biography
Abbotfinney draws its enigmatic yet witty moniker from popular culture, nodding to Abbott of the comedy team Abbott & Costello while also evoking Finney from John Knowles' novel A Separate Peace. The Washington-based modern rock quartet consciously avoids the expected trappings of Seattle's grunge-dominated 1990s sound. Jeffrey Alan, whose early career included opening slots for Al Stewart, the BoDeans, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, formed the group in the late '90s alongside guitarist Keith Wright, bassist Philip Georgas, and drummer Scott King. Abbotfinney fuses crisp melodies with abrasive lyrics to produce a polished brand of pop harmony. Their self-titled debut appeared in mid-2000 and earned widespread praise on Internet radio, where several singles established themselves as regulars on LiquidAudio.com.
