Originating from Hollywood, California, Abby Travis launched her musical path as a member of the all-girl band the Lovedolls, whose sole album appeared in 1991 under the title Love One Another. That experience opened the door to extensive session and touring engagements, where she contributed bass and vocals to a strikingly varied roster of performers that included the Meat Puppets, El Vez, and former Monkee Peter Tork. A 1995 Lollapalooza appearance alongside Beck and Elastica prompted her to pursue a solo trajectory whose range matched the breadth of those earlier collaborations. Her debut solo release, The Abby Travis Foundation, arrived in 1998 on the small imprint You Seem Like a Nice Well Adjusted Person Records. The record’s fusion of gothic and cabaret qualities across both sound and theme earned her a devoted cult following, which she extended with the late-2000 album Cutthroat Standards & Black Pop, another work in the same intensely theatrical mode.
