Biography
In 1991, following the departure of Ethiopia’s Marxist dictator, the country embraced an initial wave of liberation, which permitted a sudden influx of foreign cultural products long prohibited under prior rule. The Abyssinia Band ranks among the most enthusiastic adopters of these Western musical concepts, striving to merge them with the nation’s longstanding traditional arrangements and thereby generate a contemporary, layered sonic palette. ~ Leon Jackson
