Biography
Acoustix came together as a Dallas-based a cappella quartet in January 1990 with the lineup of Jason January, Rick Middaugh, Todd Wilson, and Joel T. Rutherford. Their barbershop quartet harmonies quickly earned widespread recognition through repeated competition victories. Before long the group expanded its reach by weaving vocal jazz, doo wop, adult contemporary, and patriotic selections into live sets aimed at broader listeners. The first two albums, Science of Sound in 1991 and Stars & Stripes in 1993, gained extra exposure when several tracks appeared on airline in-flight programs. A 1998 collaboration with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra produced a self-titled album that brought additional honors in the a cappella field. The following year founding Take 6 member Mervyn Warren joined Acoustix to record the holiday collection Cool Yule. A demanding tour itinerary has featured shared bills with Mitch Miller, LeAnn Rimes, and the Dixie Chicks along with appearances at prominent sporting events. O Worship the King arrived in the summer of 2002.
