A pianist renowned for his expertise in Spanish and Latin American repertoire, Adam Kent has appeared extensively both as a recitalist and in ensemble settings while maintaining a distinguished profile as an instructor. He pursued advanced piano studies at the Juilliard School under Jerome Lowenthal, then completed undergraduate and graduate training at the Manhattan School of Music with Solomon Mikowsky. In 1984 he joined the Precollege faculty of that institution, a post he continued to hold into the early 2020s. His first New York appearance took place in 1989 at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, and subsequent broadcasts have introduced him to listeners of WQXR, WNYC, and WFUV.

In 1996 Kent established the Damocles Trio alongside violinist Airi Yoshioka and cellist Sibylle Johner; the ensemble has maintained an active touring schedule and has issued recordings, beginning with a 2004 Claves disc devoted to Joaquín Turina’s chamber works. Two years afterward he issued his first solo album, the Grieg program Remembrances, on the SMH Music label.

Kent’s interpretive focus on Iberian and Latin American scores earned him a Juilliard doctorate in 1999, for which he prepared the dissertation “The Use of Catalan Folk Materials in the Works of Federico Mompou and Joaquín Nin-Culmell.” Presentations and lecture-recitals exploring this repertory have received support from the Spanish Ministry for Education and Culture, Spain’s U.S. consulate, and the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU. Since 2006 he has served as Director of Cultural Outreach for Spain’s Burgos International Music Festival. After accepting a faculty appointment at the State University of New York at Oneonta, he has sustained an active performance and recording career, completing the collected piano works of Ernesto Halffter for Bridge Records and releasing the 2022 Albany Records album Tania León: Teclas de mi piano.
