Biography
Throughout the 2000s, Adriann Lewis-Freeman served as a central voice in the Stellar Award-winning ensemble RiZen, and the powerhouse vocalist has issued independent recordings since 2017. Her headline releases, among them the uplifting 2020 track “You Been So Good,” sustain a vigorous blend of classic and modern gospel traditions.
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Lewis-Freeman is the daughter of Pastor Luciose Lewis, Jr. She began performing in church as a small child and, in 2003, joined her sister Aundrea in the vocal group RiZen for her first public appearance. The ensemble issued the albums RiZen (2003), RiZen 2 (2005), and Free (2009), plus a set of remixes. RiZen received Stellar Awards for New Artist and Traditional Group/Duo, while Lewis-Freeman earned a nomination in the Traditional Female Vocalist category. Following an extended hiatus by the group, she obtained a master’s degree and took a position as an English instructor. Balancing her teaching responsibilities, she joined the Tyscot-affiliated label DAF Entertainment and debuted as a solo artist in 2017 with “Prayer Changes Things.” Subsequent singles “Joybells” and “You Been So Good” appeared in 2018 and 2020.
