African Jazz Pioneers

Formed during the 1980s, The Pioneers focus on South African jazz from the 1950s and 1960s, aiming to revive the energetic atmosphere of live shows from that period. Saxophonist Ntemi Piliso, a longtime marabi veteran, directs the ensemble, which mixes established marabi performers with newer players who have embraced the tradition.
