Biography
The Los Angeles quartet Agnes Gooch owes its singular name to an early drummer whose babysitter once invoked the character as a source of discipline. That figure originates in the musical Mame. Guitarists Nathan Ehrenfeld and Mat Baker connected over shared musical interests after encountering each other at a club and decided to start a band, soon recruiting bassist Johnny Lonely. Several failed attempts later, Scott Bushkin joined on drums to round out the group. The quartet then began performing regularly, building an audience across the L.A. club circuit before securing a contract with Revolution. Their style blended classic power pop elements with the grittier alternative rock prevalent at the time, resulting in the 1997 release of their debut album Blind. No further recordings followed, and given that Baker and Lonely have since pursued projects in other bands, additional output appears improbable.
