Biography

What appears under the name Agnes Kain is in fact the mixed-gender pair Chanelle Afford and Stefan Simunic rather than any solo female performer. These versatile players from Sydney, Australia, deliver unassuming indie pop songs that carry a folk inflection on their first full-length release, the 2007 album Keep Walking or I'll Kill You. Cut inside a spare room, the record highlights Afford’s high, faintly unsteady vocals while the steady presence of melodica, piano, and glockenspiel steers the sound away from conventional indie guitar-rock territory.
