In the mid-1970s the hard rock and blues group Agnes Strange assembled in Southampton, Hampshire, England. They promptly landed a deal with Birds Nest Records, an affiliate label whose releases went through Pye Records distribution. Alan Green played bass, Dave Rodwell handled drums, and John Westwood supplied guitar and vocals. Their 1975 debut album Strange Flavour presented a set of original rock songs that sounded routine yet were performed with precision, so the record never reached mainstream listeners. The band dissolved soon afterward, although its members kept working the Hampshire club circuit.
