Biography
Sometimes regarded as the essential connector joining pre-Independence Rai traditions to contemporary Rai-pop, Ahmed Saber guided his professional path across those formative decades while openly defying the post-colonial regime. Compositions that fused Rai, wharani, and rhumba served as vehicles for his sharp critiques of governmental shortcomings, leading to repeated periods of imprisonment. He passed away penniless in 1967, yet his impact continues through the distinctive blending of traditional Algerian music with western dance textures. ~ Leon Jackson
