Biography
A noisy experimental outfit marked by improv tendencies, AIDS Wolf began performing alongside the Unicorns, Wolf Parade, and additional acts within Montreal’s indie circuit, although their unruly aesthetic aligned far more closely with Whitehouse, PRE, and An Albatross—groups with whom they likewise appeared on stage. Following a cross-Canada trek, the band launched its inaugural European tour in early 2006 just as Skin Graft and Lovepump United jointly issued the debut album The Lovvers LP. The musicians next proposed a “versus” project to members of Athletic Automaton; the ensuing Clash of the Life-Force Warriors appeared on Skin Graft in early 2007. That same year they cut a split release with Night Wounds for the Nail in the Coffin imprint, after which the group tracked the 2008 album Cities of Glass with avant hero Weasel Walter. In 2009 AIDS Wolf issued the cassette-only Pas Rapport together with the EP Dustin’ Off the Sphynx. The seven-track March to the Sea arrived in 2010, marking the quartet’s final outing, and the following year the reconfigured trio delivered its first album, Ma Vie Banale Avant-Garde. Vocalist Chloe Lum and visual artist Yannick Desranleau also operate the printing and design studio Seripop, which has produced posters since 2001.
