Combining the introspective qualities of lo-fi with the outgoing appeal of indie pop, Airport Girl formed as a six-piece ensemble from England that sometimes expands to eight members. The group has steadily built a strong catalog by working with several of the country’s most esteemed independent labels. Core members consist of Rob Price handling guitar, banjo, harmonica, and vocals, Robert Perris on lead guitar, Sean Price on bass, David Hill on keyboards, Richard Blackburn on electric piano, and Jon Troy on drums, while Tom McClure contributes violin and Rob Fleay adds trumpet whenever their availability allows.

The band’s first release arrived in spring 1998 as the 7" EP Between Delta & Delaware on Fortuna Pop, followed months later by an appearance on the Kindercore Records compilation Seven Summers. In fall 2000 they issued the single “The Foolishness That We Create Through Love Is the Closest We Come to Greatness” on Fortuna Pop, serving as an introduction to their debut album Honey, I’m an Artist, which Matinee Recordings put out near the close of that year. Matinee later released the four-song EP Do You Dream in Color? in 2003, and Where It’s at Is Where You Are Records followed with the 2004 7" “Salinger Wrote” b/w “Emmaweg House.” Early in 2007 the long-anticipated second album Slow Light finally emerged on Fortuna Pop.
