Emerging towards the end of the 1980s as a conventional Shabee dance ensemble, this five-piece group from Morocco distinguished itself among North African performers by blending age-old elements with contemporary audio elements and innovations in their dynamic first release from 1990. Haunting violin tones, mandolins, guitars, along with captivating vocals and chants in Arabic, combined with electronic modifications and DJ turntable techniques on the record, thanks to post-production efforts from Swiss producer Pat Jabbar. Bill Laswell handled production duties on the 1992 successor titled Shabeesation, also playing bass, while it included contributions from Omar Ben Hassen of the Last Poets and Bernie Worrell, the keyboardist associated with Parliament-Funkadelic.
