Biography
Born in 1975 in Newfield News, Virginia, the California-based singer-songwriter grew up immersed in the Appalachian heartland, where bluegrass and old-time country shaped his early listening. Roach launched his performing career during the late 1990s, logging countless miles across the United States and Europe and cultivating a devoted audience drawn to his earthy Americana style. His first album, Dogwood Winter, arrived in 2003 on the artist’s independent New Folk Star imprint and wove together Appalachian musical traditions with vivid family anecdotes; European Americana listeners embraced it warmly. That overseas enthusiasm proved strong enough to prompt an earlier European release for the follow-up, Revelation, which expanded the sonic palette through brass and keyboards while matching the debut’s songwriting quality. Not long after Revelation reached American shores, a mini-album available solely via the internet appeared in 2007.
