Biography
Charles James Casey and Damian John Hand, recording as Akasha, produced a string of unusually eclectic EPs for Wall of Sound Records, an imprint best known for trip-hop and big-beat material, and earned equal regard from jazz listeners and drum'n'bass DJs. The Brixton-based pair first appeared in the opening months of 1995 with the EP Jazadelica, issued as the label's third release. Strong critical response led to an invitation for Akasha to appear at Glastonbury Festival later that year, where Casey and Hand presented their live configuration—a nine-piece band assembled from several accomplished players. Two remix EPs arrived in 1998, after which the full-length album Cinematique was released the following year.
