Biography
Akiakane originated in Chiba, Japan, during the opening months of 2004. Moe, formerly the lead vocalist and guitarist of Softball, fronts the all-female street punk group, which also includes bassist/vocalist Shima, guitarist/vocalist Saki, and drummer Suzuna, the last of whom was succeeded by Liku. Echoing the approach taken earlier by the Clash and Dead Kennedys, the quartet deploys its forceful sound to deliver messages steeped in political awareness. The songs address subjects that stretch from internal Japanese matters to criticism of China’s nuclear missile efforts and calls for Taiwan to exist independently of China, yet the underlying drive remains a consistent push toward freedom and peace. The band’s debut full-length, Kasumisou, surfaced in mid-2005. Einstein Records issued the Japanese edition of the album, while Asian Man brought out a version aimed at the United States that was rendered mostly in English.
