Al Greenwood served among the original lineup that established Foreigner while extending his reach to numerous other performers through songwriting, production, and keyboard work. Following studies at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, he built experience as a session musician and recording engineer prior to linking with Mick Jones in the creation of Foreigner. His performances appeared across the group’s opening three albums until the band ended the association in 1980, coinciding with its development and Greenwood’s own growing emphasis on composition. Alongside former Foreigner bassist Ed Gagliardi, he assembled SPYS in 1981 and added John Blanco, John DiGaudio, and Billy Milne to complete the roster. Co-writing duties and keyboard contributions on Joe Lynn Turner’s first solo album, Rescue You (1985), marked his next significant undertaking. Greenwood sustained ongoing writing and co-writing activity, encompassing material developed with Deep Purple and Fiona, while also handling production and performance roles on projects for artists such as Redman and Jennifer Rush. In 2014 he founded an enterprise devoted to delivering custom compositions for films, trailers, ads, and video games.
