Biography
Since the mid-1970s Al Henderson has maintained a presence as a bassist within Toronto’s jazz community, drawing notice for the bold originality of his compositional approach. Works penned by the musician have found their way onto recordings by Time Warp—the ensemble he co-leads with drummer Barry Elmes—as well as by Alex Dean, Don Pullen, and Jane Bunnett. In 1995 Henderson earned the Socan Award for Original Jazz Composition and was simultaneously designated Composer of the Year by Jazz Report magazine. On the bandstand his bass has supported Arnett Cobb, Slim Gaillard, Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson, and Jane Bunnett, among many additional collaborators.
