Biography
Born on 15 February 1931 in Leeds, England, and passing away on 22 August 2007 in London, England, this multi-instrumentalist specialized in various clarinets while enriching numerous traditional jazz ensembles across the UK. His affiliations included the Yorkshire Jazz Band and sessions alongside the Temperance 7. Even within such structured environments, he consistently revealed a striking degree of individuality through his performances. Digby Fairweather, a prominent commentator on British jazz who also recorded with him, drew a well-earned parallel to Sandy Brown. Accordingly, Fairweather later invited the clarinetist to appear on a tribute recording dedicated to Brown.
