Biography
Jeff Albert on trombone and Larry Ankrum on saxophone and flute lend their names to the Albert-Ankrum Project, whose sound fuses contemporary jazz with classic New Orleans traditions while drawing equal inspiration from New York and Caribbean sources. Albert, who also appears with the Naked Orchestra and Wardell Quezergue's Big Band, serves on the faculty of the University of New Orleans; he arrived in the city in 1999 after several years in the Caribbean and earlier roots in his hometown of Minneapolis. Ankrum brings versatility to the project through prior work in R&B and rock groups, where he performs on keyboards and woodwinds in addition to composing. The remaining members include bassist Casandra Ankrum, guitarist Jesse Lewis, and drummer/percussionist Louis Romanos. Lakefront Digital issued the group's self-titled debut album in 2002.
