Biography
Alberto Continentino, brother to the musicians Kiko Continentino and Jorge Continentino as well as nephew of Leo Gandelman, first picked up the guitar at age nine before turning to electric bass four years afterward. His professional start came in 1995 when he supported Mauro Senise and Raul Mascarenhas. The next year brought participation on Milton Nascimento’s album Nascimento, which received the 1997 World Music Grammy. In 1997 he entered Cama de Gato and accompanied Milton Nascimento onstage while also appearing in the Nascimento video documentary A Sede do Peixe and recording a track there with Gilberto Gil. With Paulo Moura he performed at the Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival in Israel, after which he toured alongside Pepeu Gomes. Session work followed with Jussara Silveira, Beto Guedes, Pascoal Meirelles, Elba Ramalho, and Belô Veloso, along with live appearances alongside Cláudio Dauelsberg, Idriss Boudrioua, Cama de Gato, Nivaldo Ornelas, Vítor Ramil, and Adriana Maciel. He remains a member of Caetano Veloso’s band and has played festivals including JVC and Montreal Jazz Fest. With his brothers Kiko Continentino and Jorge Continentino he formed the trio Continentrio. In 2002 he backed Luciana Souza at her Free Jazz Festival dates in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
