Biography
Zarzycki trained as a pianist under Viole in Berlin before appearing in recitals throughout Poznan, Krakow, Warsaw, Germany, and England. He pursued composition studies in Paris with both Reber and Reinecke. In Poland he participated in founding the Warsaw Music Society together with the Musical Institute, where Paderewski joined the faculty. Zarzycki raised institutional standards by strengthening the teaching roster and expanding the string program along comparable principles. He directed the student orchestra while also delivering instruction in selected courses. His catalog featured songbooks that remained derivative of Moniuszko as well as chamber and salon pieces reflecting Chopin’s influence.
