Biography
Among Scotland's most cherished itinerant folk performers stood Alex Campbell. He acquired his busking skills during travels alongside the American folk musicians Derroll Adams and Ramblin' Jack Elliott in the late 1950s. Until his passing in 1987, he sustained performances blending traditional Scottish melodies, American labor songs, spirituals, and ballads. His contributions proved vital in bringing the compositions of Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, and Woody Guthrie to listeners across England and the Celtic regions. In the 1960s, Campbell relocated to Denmark, initially establishing himself in Skagen before moving to Tonder. Briefly, he was wed to the American folk singer Peggy Seeger. Storyville Records released the albums In Copenhagen and At the Tivoli Gardens on CD for the first time in 2003.
