Alexandra Stan emerged as a Romanian Euro-dance vocalist whose breakthrough arrived in 2011 when her second single, “Mr. Saxobeat,” achieved widespread international acclaim. Born on June 10, 1989, in Constanta, Romania, she entered the recording industry two years earlier with the 2009 release “Lollipop (Param Pam Pam),” a track shaped by producers and writers Andrei Nemirschi and Marcel Prodan. Although that debut failed to generate substantial attention, it established her presence within Romania and paved the way for the stronger impact of her next effort.
“Mr. Saxobeat” first appeared in her home market during 2010 and once again featured the production and songwriting of Nemirschi and Prodan. The single maintained the number-one position on the Romanian chart for eight consecutive weeks. Comparable to earlier Romanian Euro-dance successes that crossed borders, such as Inna’s “Hot” and Edward Maya’s “Stereo Love,” the song soon received licensing deals for distribution outside the country. By 2011 it had entered the Top Ten throughout Europe, reaching the summit in multiple nations, while also registering stateside by climbing to the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart. Around the same time, Stan issued her third single, “Get Back (ASAP),” as preparations advanced for the launch of a full-length album.
