Biography
Ali Beletic works as an artist and singer/songwriter whose raw, bluesy indie rock has drawn notice from the outset. Raised by a vocalist mother, she trained in voice and piano during childhood before picking up the guitar upon relocating to New York. After completing her filmmaking degree at New York University, she spent several years in the city producing multimedia conceptual pieces while participating in Brooklyn’s intense music community. She and her partner Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family) later chose to relocate to the desert Southwest in order to “get off the grid” and pursue their lives and projects amid greater open space. Continuing her practice as an installation artist, she simultaneously began recording an album whose songs gradually absorbed the surrounding landscape’s nature and mythology over the following years. The resulting debut LP, Legends of These Lands Left to Live, appeared in mid-2016 on Lightning Records and fused garage rock and proto-punk with blues-rock. Co-founded by Beletic and Olinsky, Lightning Records had functioned until then as a subscription label. Olinsky served as co-producer and co-engineer on the album, which also included drumming contributions from Danny Frankel (Fiona Apple, k.d. lang) and Mike Horick (Four Star Alarm).
