Biography
A skilled interpreter of bop on the flute, Ali Ryerson grew up as the daughter of guitarist Art Ryerson. She first took up the instrument at eight and pursued rigorous classical studies that culminated in her graduation from Hartt College at the University of Hartford. Even so, jazz captured her imagination early, leading her to sustain a wide-ranging path that encompasses both classical and jazz settings. After three years of freelance work in Belgium, she established herself as one of New York’s premier studio musicians. Along the way she collaborated with Art Farmer, Lou Donaldson, Maxine Sullivan, and Stephane Grappelli, among many others, while also releasing two albums under her own name on Bob Thiele’s Red Baron label and several acclaimed recordings for Concord.
