Biography
Alia Marie first saw the light of day in Philadelphia before her upbringing unfolded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Only after she settled in New York City did the singer sharpen her command of vocals and songwriting. She contributed backing vocals to A Tribe Called Quest, joining them for an appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, and made her Broadway debut in Rent before turning her primary attention to a music career. Along the way she opened for rappers Rahzel and the Roots, then released her first recording in 2000, the self-titled five-song EP.
