Biography
Alistair McGowan first entered the world in Evesham, Worcestershire, England, during 1964 and would go on to establish himself as a familiar presence across British television, radio, and theater. His professional start came in the 1980s as an impressionist on the satirical puppet program Spitting Image, after which he maintained a steady stream of television appearances that ranged across comedy series and dramatic productions. The year 2000 brought a new partnership with Ronni Ancona for the BAFTA-winning Alistair McGowan's Big Impression on BBC, a series that continued through 2004 and cemented his status as a widely recognized figure. Drama reclaimed his attention in 2005 when he took a role in the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' Bleak House. Subsequent seasons found him appearing in stage musicals that included Little Shop of Horrors, The Mikado, and Cabaret. Having abandoned piano studies at age nine, McGowan resolved to master the instrument once more; this resolve produced the 2016 one-man show Erik Satie's-Faction, built around the French composer's texts and compositions and requiring McGowan to perform on piano before a live audience for the first time. That experience reignited his commitment to the keyboard, prompting studio sessions that yielded his first album. Piano Album appeared near the close of 2017 and featured his interpretations of concise classical pieces drawn from the catalogs of Bach, Grieg, Chopin, and Satie.
