Rather than functioning as an ensemble, the endeavor existed purely as an idea. One year after issuing his well-received 1956 LP All Night Long, guitarist Kenny Burrell committed its successor All Day Long to tape. The date preserved trumpeter Doug Byrd, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Art Taylor from the earlier date while adding Frank Foster, heard on tenor sax and flute, together with pianist Tommy Flanagan.
