Rooted in the scruffy jangle of '90s indie rock and driven by a firmly confessional lyrical stance, the Columbus, Ohio quartet came together in 2012. Vocalist/guitarist Maryn Jones and bassist Amanda Bartley had already shared time in the short-lived group Wolfs; after that project ended, the pair chose to continue writing and performing as a duo. Drummer Jesse Withers, also active in the melodic punk band Delays, joined next, turning the lineup into a trio that began performing live. Their debut recording, a split cassette shared with fellow Ohio band Slouch, appeared in July 2013. Even as Jones began working with the indie folk group Saintseneca and releasing solo material under the name Yowler, All Dogs issued their first single later that year on the Detroit label Salinas. Recording activity slowed the following year, limited to the December release of the "Georgia" single, yet the band expanded by adding NONA guitarist Nick Harris and devoted time to refining their sound and developing fresh material. Early in 2015 they tracked their debut album at Wherever Audio in Philadelphia with producer Kyle Gilbride of Swearin', and Salinas issued Kicking Every Day in August 2015.
