Biography
In summer 2001 the U.K. Midlands gave rise to All One Surface after guitarist Steve Whatcott and drummer Alex Bedwell answered an advertisement seeking musicians and thereby encountered vocalist/guitarist Ven Pedro. Bassist Tris Leaver completed the lineup soon afterward, at which point the band formally came into existence. Over the course of the following summer the quartet produced demo recordings and performed a handful of live shows, revealing a lush emo aesthetic distinguished by prominent piano passages and clean-channel guitars rather than the standard American reliance on chunkhead power chords and post-hardcore screech. Human Recordings issued the band’s LP Such Is the Way to the Stars in 2002.
