Allan Gutheim is a Swedish composer working in avant-electronic forms who also lectures, writes books, and produces recordings while creating scores for theater, film, ballet, gallery installations, and assorted multimedia projects. His early training centered on music theory, composition, and piano performance. After working throughout the late 1970s and 1980s at Stockholm’s EMS electro-acoustic music and sound art studio, he established his own facility and production entity, Real Time Music, in 1994. During the same period he instructed courses in music theory and digital production at Kulturama, the Stockholm arts school. In 2013 Gutheim joined the collaborative art duo Unda Arte—Swedish-Estonian artist Marie Lundvall and Swedish artist Peder Bjoerk—to release Postmodern Substrada, a deluxe art portfolio containing fifteen original prints, a twenty-eight-page booklet dense with literary text designed by Lundvall and Peder Bjoerk, and a four-track CD single drawn from Gutheim’s earlier recordings.
