Allen Shadow, a poet with an extensive record of publications, merges lo-fi folk-rock textures with his creative practice to produce pieces that operate equally as literary compositions and performance poetry.

The New York author, who released two volumes via Quick Books of Pueblo, CO, first experimented with music in the mid-'80s alongside the doo-wop ensemble the Phantoms. That project yielded a sequence of performances drawn from Shadow's street-wise chapbook Harlem River Baby. He subsequently devoted nearly a decade in Nashville to sharpening his songwriting craft.

His debut album, King Kong Serenade, represents the four-year result of material initially written for an off-off-Broadway multimedia production. The recording delivers a raw depiction of New York that encompasses both the city's sweeping motifs and its intimate conflicts.
