Biography
A Hungarian composer who also led military bands, Czibulka created operettas along with dance and salon pieces. Dance remained his preferred idiom, exemplified by the widely known “Stephanie-Gavotte.” Concert tours as a pianist carried him through Russia and to the cities of Innsbruck, Trieste, and Vienna. For the German productions of Sullivan’s “The Yeoman of the Guard” and “The Gondoliers,” he fashioned dance sets drawn from those scores.
