Born to Cuban Amaury Pérez García, a television director who managed the renowned Tropicana Cabaret, singer and songwriter Amaury Pérez absorbed local music traditions from an early age. He entered the public eye by writing an anthem for his elementary school and performing assorted roles on Cuban National Television. Motivated by major Latin American literary figures, he began setting poems to music and aligned himself with the Nueva Trova movement. The year 1974 brought his first chart entry with the song "¿Quién Sabe Más?," after which he joined Pablo Milanés on the recording "Por Siempre Puerto Rico." His debut solo album, Acuerdate de Abril, arrived in 1976 and was followed in 1978 by Martí en Amaury. A performance taped during a Spanish tour was later released under the title La Nueva Trova Cubana, En El Monumental De Madrid. Near the decade’s end he joined forces with Eddy Martínez to create the group Síntesis and issued the album No Lo Van A Impedir. Across subsequent years Amaury Pérez has received recognition for his enduring contributions to Latin music.
