Biography
American Tears emerged in the 1970s as a New York-based hard rock outfit centered on keyboards. Mark Mangold served as its driving force, fronting an early roster that featured bassists Gary Sonny and Greg Baze alongside drummer Tommy Gunn. That configuration produced the band's first release, Branded Bad, and the follow-up Tear Gas, which earned the description "heavy ivory." When neither record connected with listeners, Mangold reshaped the group, bringing in guitarist Evan Brooks plus the rhythm section of Kirk Powers and Glenn Kithcart. The revised unit delivered the third album, Powerhouse, yet again met with little public interest.
