Emerging from London, England, the doom-laden sludge metal group Among the Missing—sometimes shortened to A.T.M.—assembled in 2001, though only in 2003 did repeated membership shifts conclude and a settled configuration take hold. Originally operating as the Missing, the band delivered its earliest recording, Peter Beardsley Jism Holocaust, in 2002. The 2003 arrival of Don on guitar and vocals, Kev on guitar, Craig on bass, and Pat on drums allowed Among the Missing to concentrate on new material. A demo came next, and in 2004 the quartet made its first split-single appearance alongside Red Stars Parade. Further split releases followed in 2005, after which the Withered Hand label issued the band’s official debut full-length, Disorder of the Templar, that same year; the album featured multiple guest contributions and benefited from a consistent run of live shows. In addition to stage activity and split projects, Among the Missing strengthened its audience through numerous compilation appearances on behalf of various labels and periodicals such as Terrorizer. The group returned to album releases in 2007 with Cease to Exist.
