A Cambridge, Massachusetts-based synth pop musician named André Obin first appeared in 2008 through two digital-only Moodgadget releases: the buzzing and largely instrumental single “Colorwheel” plus the five-track Premonition EP. Subsequent short-form digital output on Moodgadget, Trouw, Klopfgeist, and Mina arrived alongside extensive touring. In 2012 the Boston Music Awards recognized him as Performer of the Year. Sky Council then put out his debut full-length album, The Arsonist, the following year. When the same imprint released Ways of Escape in 2014, Obin’s style had evolved through steady refinement into a moody, precisely shaped, and contemporary strain of synth pop.
