Andrea Centazzo, recognized as Italy’s foremost orchestral percussionist, has written and interpreted lyric operas, orchestral symphonies, and percussion solos. Since 1983 his creative focus has centered on multimedia works that blend traditional and electronic instruments with video tape. Observers have commended his capacity to “synthesize Oriental percussive vibration with timbal understanding of contemporary music and the soul of jazz and rock.” He first gained notice performing as a sideman alongside avant-garde figures such as John Zorn, Steve Lacy, and Don Cherry. Holding a doctorate in musicology, Centazzo has conducted seminars and workshops throughout Europe and the United States. A prolific author, he has produced more than 350 compositions and written eight books on musicology.
