Biography
Hailing from Vancouver, pianist Andrew Czink ranks among Canada's most inventive musicians. Beyond his solo appearances and participation in the avant-garde ensemble Structural Damage with guitarist John Oliver, he has presented the radio program Musica Nova on CFRO, Vancouver's cooperative station; instructed students in synthesizer, MIDI, and digital studio techniques at the Centre for Digital Imaging and Sound in Vancouver; and acted as co-director of Earsay Productions. After classical training, Czink drew strong influence from the "contemporary avant-garde" method of composition. His first album, Escape Velocity, issued in 1998, centered on solo piano performance, whereas later projects featured full ensembles.
